Putnam, Connecticut

Putnam is located in the quiet corner of Connecticut, appropriately settled on the Quinebaug River. Learn more about the city and the county, or visit the local Chamber of Commerce site. Or find out more about nearby Norwich, neighboring Rhode Island, or the rest of New England.

For local news, check out the Putnam Town Crier or the Villager Newspaper, or visit local TV station WPRI and radio station WINY.

Outdoor activities abound throughout the region. The Putnam River Trail is a multipurpose pathway that runs along the eastern shore of the Quinebaug River, which includes parks, picnic areas, scenic views, historic exhibits and a 200 foot pedestrian bridge that crosses the river. Also visit Block Island, Mystic Seaport, the submarine base at Groton, the Mystic Aquarium, or head to nearby Newport. For something different, visit the Mohegan Sun Casino or Foxwoods. Fun for young and old alike can be had at the Science Center of Eastern Connecticut. For those enjoying performing arts, try the Bradley Playhouse or the Complex Performing Arts Center. Professional sports fans don't have far to travel to see the New England Patriots, or Boston's Red Sox, Celtics, and Bruins. Top college teams are the Providence Friars and the UConn Huskies. Minor league hockey is big in the area too, as is the nearby Norwich Navigators minor league baseball team.

Area schools include the Quinebaug Valley Community College, Eastern Connecticut State University, Southern Connecticut State University, the University of Connecticut, and Nichols College. The Putnam area has a number of fine public schools. You'll find plenty of helpful relocation information at Relocation Central, and information about local banking and finance at Bankrate.
