Bridging Need with Innovative Solutions through Collaborative Efforts

Since 1946, McFarland-Johnson has provided a full spectrum of bridge design services to our clients on over 2,000 bridges. McFarland-Johnson specializes in the design of concrete, steel, and timber (covered) bridges that include highway interchange overpass and underpass structures, multi-span river crossings, curved and heavily skewed structures, and historic bridges. We have also performed detailed inspections of more than 1,300 bridges for load analysis, and rehabilitation purposes, and provided complete retrofit design solutions.

At McFarland-Johnson, our foremost criteria of function, constructibility, structural efficiency, economic optimization, innovations, and aesthetics, combined with our technical capability and experience, assure optimal solutions to our clients' most challenging bridges.

Depending on the needs of today's multi-modal transportation infrastructure and diverse clients, McFarland-Johnson can develop bridge design solutions for both traditional and new project delivery systems, such as design/build. Our personnel are experienced in the development and management of contractors' alternate designs and design/build projects. These projects are customized and cost-optimized to the capabilities and constraints of their builders, and developed through the integration of the designer, contractor, detailer, fabricator, erector, and owner. The results are the creation of competitive advantages sought by the builders of projects, and the provision of structurally efficient, fast-track, and cost-optimized projects, demanded by owners.

In addition, McFarland-Johnson's multi-disciplinary approach to project development and management provides the benefits of single source support services that include planning, environmental studies, traffic studies, traffic control, surveying, geotechnical investigations, and construction administration. Our in-house AutoCAD® and MicroStation software CADD systems provide our engineers the ability to communicate and coordinate with our clients and team members, throughout all project phases. To guarantee the absolute integrity of your design project, our engineers utilize the latest and most sophisticated structural software available, including three-dimensional finite-element analyses and design programs for bridge superstructures.

We are committed to the goal of providing our clients with total bridge project solutions as a result of taking a collaborative approach with the client, becoming a true business partner, and an integral part of the team and its success.
