A Reputation for the Road

McFarland-Johnson, with over 50 years experience in highway engineering, has designed or inspected thousands of miles of urban and rural highways and roads for clients throughout the United States.

Committed to supplying quality service to federal, state, county or local governments, institutions, developers, and facility owners, our multi-disciplinary engineers, technicians, planners and support staff provide you with a single source for all phases of transportation engineering. For expressways, turnpikes, complex interchanges, minor highways and service roads, or local streets and roads, McFarland-Johnson can provide the earliest phases of project development, through the final steps of construction administration.

Extensive experience using our in-house networked AutoCAD® and Bentley software systems, and advanced transportation design software, enable our engineers to provide you with optimized designs through increased productivity, and the ability to meet compressed schedules. By examining numerous alternatives, we truly optimize new road alignments, saving valuable earthwork-moving quantities and minimizing environmental and socioeconomic impacts. With experience throughout the country, McFarland-Johnson’s highway engineers have a working knowledge of how differences in materials, geographic and climatic conditions, and topography can affect project costs and planning. Such savings in construction costs, at times, exceed our entire design fees.

To help you determine when it is most efficient to expand or maintain your road system, McFarland-Johnson can consult with you on the purchase, set-up and operation of your own computer-based inventory and Pavement Management System (PMS). Federal and state agencies have already begun to mandate the use of PMS to those seeking aid for pavement rehabilitation.
