Improving Safety and Mobility

McFarland-Johnson provides a full range of traffic engineering services including traffic impact studies, traffic capacity analysis and design, and ITS applications. Our staff of traffic engineers and planners has extensive experience ranging from small-scale traffic impact studies, to major regional traffic needs assessments.

Safety and mobility improvements are not limited to vehicles alone. Today’s solutions mandate that pedestrians and bicyclists be considered in any study or design, and that the completed project “blend” within the context of its community. We understand that before physical capacity is added to an existing roadway network, considerations for TSM/TDM measures must be made to ensure that the maximum reduction in congestion is realized before additional property impacts are incurred.

We are experienced in the analysis of small isolated intersections, extensive networks of coordinated signals, the design of increasingly popular roundabouts, bicycle and pedestrian trails, traffic control sign and pavement marking layouts, and traffic calming measures, as appropriate.

Our staff prides itself in keeping abreast of the latest technology, designs, and educational resources through membership and participation in ITE (Institute of Transportation Engineers), ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems), and certification as Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE). We are also experienced in the use of traffic simulation software, and have utilized this tool very effectively to convey to the public how safety and mobility will be improved following completion of a project.
