Summary
Challenge:
This project consisted of the design of a new 7,500 square foot Visitor's Center at Thacher State Park. The scope of work included
mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and structural design. MJ also provided construction administration services.
Solution:
Mechanical designs were comprised of the heating, cooling and exhaust systems, equipment selection, duct/piping layout and associated
distribution systems, and sizing of an in-floor radiant heating system. In addition, mechanical room equipment layouts, location of
major equipment such as boilers, heat exchangers, exhaust fans, unit heaters, perimeter fin tube radiation, and identification of the
location of intake and exhaust louvers were also provided.
Electrical design consisted of primary building service and placement of major electrical equipment drawn to scale and dimensions for the space allocation. A roof-mounted photovoltaic system was also designed for this facility to supplement the utility service.
Plumbing design included sanitary, waste and venting systems and associated plumbing fixture layouts, together with location of all toilets, urinals, lavatories, mop sinks, floor drains and drinking fountains. Exposed heavy-timber construction structural design was provided throughout the facility, which added architectural detail while maintaining functionality.
